The carnage ahead: Goals for 2009

It is a new year, so what am I going to do this year? Well here are my goals for the year (in no particular order):

  1. Create a personal web site (www.cybercarnage.com.au) and keep it maintained.
    • So the foundation has been laid and this site is up and running. Now to add content and to keep it interesting. This is one of those goals that I've wanted to do for a while, but never got around to. I have tried in the past, and failed miserably. I think I have a cool domain name. It took a while to come up with one that is available, but I got one :)
  2. Get a six pack.
    • No, not the alcoholic beverage type, I'm talking rock hard abs here. Having spent the first 27 years of my life overweight/obese, a six pack was something that seemed unachievable. Now that I lost 30kgs, it doesn't seem that far off, but the last bit is always the hardest. It will take a bit of work and strict dieting. No more bread and fish & chips for me. We'll make this a for "next summer" goal ;)
  3. Start lifting weights.
    • Although I got to the gym regularly, it is all cardio. I need to start weight training so that I get a more complete workout. Once again, something that I've wanted to do but haven't. Time to focus!
  4. Get a new job.
    • Since DWS has taken over SDM, the organisation has changed immensely and has been a hard year for most (if not all) involved. Moral is bad, and many have left. I find that I don't push myself anymore and that I'm getting stale. I've been with the org for over 4 years now, so its time to move on. No rush though. I'll take my time to find a place that is fun and exciting to work at.
  5. Spend more quality time with the wife.
    • We live in a money-rich,time-poor society, it is a fact of life (not that I'll say I'm money rich). As a result we seem to always be busy being busy and it interferes with the quality time we get to spend with our partner. I just need to remember to show her how much I love her a little more, and let work and chores just wait (they'll still be there tomorrow). We both need to work on this one I think.
  6. Spend more time with my friends and loved ones
    • Spending time with loved ones, not a problem. I see my parents and in-laws at least once a week. Friends on the other hand, very rarely outside of work. Something to work on, especially since most of the good friends that I've made at work over the years have moved on and I don't get to see them that often. User groups like MOSSIG help as most of them attend, so I need to make sure I go to these meeting more often.
  7. More 3D!
    • I've had a taste and I want more. I've just touched the surface and am excited about all the potential there is to learn more and more. I've been gathering a bit of reference material, now its time to start working through them.
  8. Create a 3D animation Short Film
    • Now this is going to be a lot of work. A LOT OF WORK! There is just so much involved with the whole process, but I'm sure I'll learn heaps along the way and hopefully create something that others will enjoy. Still working on story ideas. I'm sure once I have the story down pat, everything will start falling into place.
  9. Read more
    • Comic books that is! Fiction, bluh! That's what movies and TV shows are for. The only books I enjoy are comics and biographies. I used to read comic books all the time as a young lad (before I discovered boobies and the joy and happiness they bring :P). When I started the Cert III in Media I had just started reading Wolverine comics again, when the tutor asked if I've read the Marvel Civil War series yet, which I hadn't. Well as of today, I have finished reading all 100+ issues involved in the series, and I loved it. The addiction is back. I recently dug out the old comic book box, and I hadn't purchased a comic since '93. So its been a while (15 years) and I've missed heaps, but I'm sort of back on track with what has been happing in the Marvel universe :)
  10. Stop biting my nails
    • Its a disgusting, childish habit and I think it is about time I quit. Simple as that, NOT! Most of the time I don't even realise I'm biting my nails. This is going to take some real dedication.
  11. Have more fun
    • Another one of those symptoms of being busy being busy, and most of the above goals is geared around having more fun and enjoyment in life. I'll be getting rid of the Wii, I tends to just sit there and not be used. I'll give it away to someone who I hope will get more use and enjoyment out of it. I'll probably get an X-Box 360 instead. I've borrowed my brother's one over the Christmas break and have been loving Gears of War 2 (sometimes you just need to kill stuff, and the Wii games are more kid oriented).

That seems like enough goals for now. Some of these are simple and I would easily achieve, most are fairly involved and only time will tell how successful I am in achieving these. We'll see in 6 months time when I do a mid year review to see how I'm tracking.

Time to create some carnage,

Andrew
